Cave accessible on foot from the Saint-Claude town centre: from the Tourist Information Centre, turn left into rue Lamartine, then rue du Collège and the beginning of rue Rosset. At the footbridge (called Pont de la Rochette) go up the steps on the left and follow chemin de la Rochette.
Trail 2-km/1.2-miles-long return – 200 m / 656 ft of height variation – 1.5 hours – yellow sign
Option: Belvédère de l’Ermitage: just before the left turn on the final trail to the cave, an old gate will indicate the way to the most beautiful belvedere looking over the town (200 m / 656 ft return).
Anecdotal and historical detail: the water from the cave was considered to have miraculous properties and Louis XI, while visiting Saint-Claude, came to the cave and drank from it.
